कैलिफोर्निया के लास एंजिलिस स्थित अस्पताल के डाक्टर भी यह देखकर आश्चर्य में पड़ गए जब एक महिला ने एक साथ छह लड़कों और दो बच्चियों को जन्म दिया। हालांकि अमेरिका में यह घटना दूसरी बार घटी है। इससे पहले भी 1998 में एक महिला आठ बच्चों को जन्म दे चुकी है। उसने छह लड़कियों और दो लड़कों को जन्म दिया था जिनमें से एक सप्ताह बाद एक बच्ची की मौत हो गई थी।

अस्पताल की डाक्टर कारेन मेपलेस ने बताया कि आठों बच्चे स्वस्थ हैं और इनकी हालत स्थिर है। हालांकि इन्हें नियोनेटल इंटेसिव केयर यूनिट में रखा गया है।

डा. मेपलेस ने बताया कि इन बच्चों का जन्म प्रसव की तय अवधि से नौ सप्ताह पहले ऑपरेशन के जरिये कराया गया। उन्होंने बताया कि छह बच्चों का जन्म सामान्य रूप से हुआ लेकिन दो बच्चों को वेंटिलेटर की मदद से गर्भाशय से बाहर निकाला गया। इस असामान्य प्रसव के लिए 46 डाक्टरों की टीम का गठन किया गया था और टीम ने महज पांच मिनट में आठ बच्चों के जन्म पर घोर आश्चर्य प्रकट किया।

मजे की बात तो यह है कि डाक्टरों को 680 ग्राम से 1.47 किग्रा तक के वजन वाले नवजात बच्चों की इस भरी-पूरी टीम को अंग्रेजी के ए से एच तक के वर्णाक्षरों की मदद से पहचानना पड़ रहा है।
